Alphabetical List of Asian Ingredients

Things you might not have in your pantry

Here I would like to list some A-Z ingredients that perhaps not everyone has in their pantry. Beyond the straightforward alphabetical listing of Asian ingredients, I also provide links to dishes on my blog for some sauces, spices or pastes where the ingredient in question is typically used.

Moreover, for ingredients where there are multiple variants or varieties, that have several names or are easily confused, I’ve added corresponding notes. Hopefully you won’t end up like me at the beginning of my Asian cooking adventures, when I frequently confused thick and thin soy sauce and Anne had to stick hint stickers on the bottles. Or find yourself completely bewildered at the market standing in front of vegetables simply labeled “Other Vegetable”.

Additionally, for each ingredient, if available, there’s a link to the respective product page on Amazon. I participate in Amazon’s affiliate program. So you support my blog if you follow the links and purchase something there. Amazon may store certain data about you; please refer to my privacy policy for details on this.
